Volunteering

Harford County presents some unique challenges for homeless and low income individuals.  In addition to volunteering at the Welcome One Emergency Shelter and Fellowship Center, assistance is needed in the following areas.  Can you help in any of these areas?

HOUSING AFFORDABILITY

  • Many of our clients work, however, people who are making $8 to $12 an hour find it difficult to afford a one-bedroom apartment for $700/month.  The amount of low income housing in Harford County is very limited.  Teaming up with one or more other clients to room together seems to be one successful strategy for finding affordable housing.  Please let us know if you are aware of housing opportunites.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Most of our clients do not have vehicles of their own.  Harford County's public transit system is limited, both in range and in hours of operation.  Job opportunities are restricted to those clients who are able to access the bus.  Please let us know if you would be willing to help transport clients to and from work.
  • Do you have a vehicle you would like to donate?  Donated vehicles can help clients get to and from work.  Even if not working, the salvage fees can help us repair another vehicle to be donated to a client.

HEALTH CARE

  • If you know a dentist who would be willing to do work pro bono or at a discount, please let us know.
